What could an Online classroom look like?
We have been talking with people that are currently holding schools online and seeing the ways they are doing it.
For the purpose of what we discuss here we are primarily talking about post High School learning.
Ways
Present
There are schools holding their classrooms with students in them, just not all the students.
Syncroious
This is where the student is attending the class at the same time as the physical students. These students may be in the same City, same Timezone or any where else in the world. They can praticipate just like a student who is physically present. The teacher ot lecture for the day or week could equally be present or anywhere else in the world.
Asyncronious
This student is present for the purpose of doing all the work, watching the leactures and doing the course assignment, just not at the same time as the live students.
They may come in periodically if their timezone allows.
Aquiring
I create this last category for some one who may enter the class long after it is over.
The interest is to be able to listen to the leactures, they may do the assignments, but there may be no one available to give a mark, and grading would not be done.
Autodidact
THis opens up the largr issue that is facing higher education of creating life long learners, self learner and overcoming the student / teacher bairrer. This often exists in the mind of the learner as they can only learn if someone teachers them. And even sometimes in the mind of a teacher, they can only lesrn if they are taught.
