Db
Journey currently has a number of databases you can subscribe to.
DataBases | Administrator | Departments | Housing | Transportation | Maintenance | Post Office | Accommodation | Library |
Emails | Workers | Security | Kōkua | Projects | Accounts | Support | Courses | Outreach |
If you have already created a Hui then this link, https://kokua.family/journey/mydbs, will take you to create your first Subscription Database.
When you create your first Database, you get the following free ones to help manage your Hui.
Alpha Resource Thing
As we developed Journey, we wanted a way to write code once but use it many times.
When looking at what you might want to control, Administrator, Transportation, Maintenance, a Post Office, we saw that all of these have three compatible areas.
They create an easy acronym, ART.
Alpha
Maybe Alpha should have been People, but oh well, this is what I had previously in another project, and it's what got folded into this project.
Any Human that is in any Database comes into Alpha.
Different Databases have different kinds of Alpha.
- Library has Patrons.
- Transportation has Drivers & Mechanics.
- Administrator has Admin & Super Admin.
Thing
The third item is Things, but let's look at this before Resource.
Where Alpha is People, Thing is anything physical-like.
- Library has a Library.
- Transportation has Vehicle & Gas Card.
- Administrator has Database.
Resource
A resource is where an ALpha and a Thing intersect.
- Library has a
- Patron with a Subscription to a Library.
- Transportation has a
- Driver with a Reservation to drive a Vehicle
- Driver with a Refuel of a Vehicle with a Gas Card.
- Mechanic with a Repair of a Vehicle
- Mechanic with a Refuel of a Vehicle with a Gas Card.
- Administrator has a
- Super Admin with a Db Access to a Database.
- Admin with a Db Access to a Database.
Actions
In any given Database, as an Admin or Super Admin or the Owner, there are a set of functions you can have.
List
The list lets you list all ARTs (Alpha Resource Thing) according to the current Action.
The possible Actions are presented at the top of the Window.
In most Databases, you start with the following Actions.
Created Active Expired Suspended Inactive Delete
These are editable, and you can create more depending on how you want to manage your database. For instance, in my Transportation, I have changed these to:
Created Driving test Driver Expired Suspended Inactive Delete
Create
It allows you to create the ART you want to create.
If it is Alpha People, you can search Journey for the person you want. If they do not exist, you are presented with the opportunity to invite them to join Journey. For someone to join Journey and work in your Hui, there is no cost to them. There is a subscription for a user if they want to join multiple Ohana. Cost
Report
Reports lets you create reports across the whole Database, and as we build it out, we would like to know what you want to do.
Import
This is set up to allow you to import your data from other platforms.
Export
Export when you want from what you want.
I use this for the Digital Library to have my users ready to be imported into OverDrive.
Search
Yet to be built out.
Settings
Settings is the Cog Icon on the far right.

Join
You can turn on and off the link that lets a person create their own connection with your Organisation.
This is found on the left menu, under the name of the Database, in this case, Transportation.
Once in this area, you can turn the Join Mechanism on and off in the tick box.
Important Issue with Departments
We encountered an issue with some people changing the name of the Department to 'Home Department'. This caused an error when they joined.
